About Lighthouse Central

What is Lighthouse?

A Christian holiday club that gets the summer holidays off to a great start.  Lighthouse began in Great Missenden and Prestwood in 1987. Based on this experience, Lighthouse Hazlemere started in 2000, with the others quickly following. There are now 14 Lighthouses - Beaconsfield, Bletchley South, Bourne End, Burnham, Cressex, Great Missenden, Hazlemere, High Wycombe, Langley, Loudwater, Mansfield, Marlow, Princes Risborough, and Shelswell

What is Lighthouse Central?

Lighthouse Central is the support centre for thirteen Lighthouses (all except Great Missenden). managing a bespoke secure on-line database augmented by an intuitive and easy-to-use software solution that automates as far as practical the administration processes required to run a Holiday Club.

We also plant new Lighthouses nationwide - if you want to know more do take a look here Start a Lighthouse. We will be there with you every step of the way.

What happens at Lighthouse?

At the start and finish of the day everyone is together for worship, teaching, drama, competitions, etc. For the rest of the day, children have a programme of games, performing arts and craft, plus two Discovery sessions to explore the day's theme. The 10s and 11s age group have a separate program including an exciting choice of workshops.

Where and when?

Most Lighthouses take place on the first full week of the summer holidays but please check individual locations for dates as they do vary.

Who is in charge of the children?

Lighthouse is run by volunteers.  Children are in year-groups, which are broken down into smaller Lighthouse groups. Each Lighthouse has a Lighthouse Keeper (leader) and Lamplighters (assistants). Specialist teams help with craft, performing arts and games. We take up references for all helpers and police check adults from the age of 16.

What about younger children?

Many of the Lighthouses have a half-day programme for parents-and-toddlers called "Little Lighthouse". There is no need to pre-book, just look for the information on their pages on the website.

Children with special needs

We welcome applications for children with special needs and will do all we can to accommodate such applications but in order to ensure the appropriate support is in place, it is essential that you tell us well in advance if your child has additional help at school or has an Education Health Care Plan (EHCP).

How much does it cost?

Running Lighthouse costs between £50  and £70 per child, depending on the Lighthouse. We do not charge a set amount for children to attend, (as we do not want to deny any child a place) and rely upon donations and those of local churches, businesses, and other generous benefactors so Lighthouse can continue each year.

We want to provide a great experience for all the children at Lighthouse. Please support us. Every donation, great or small, makes a difference. Thank you!
